Helotes, Texas is on State Highway 16 some sixteen miles northwest of downtown San Antonio in northwestern Bexar County. As San Antonio expanded and approached the Helotes within the 1970s, after having a decade of planning and negotiation, Helotes became an incorporated city in October 1981. For this day, residents still have trouble with the dilemma of maintaining the city’s rugged country charm, while concurrently allowing for the development of modern suburban facilities and businesses.
